Texas’ Blue Bell Creameries commits to eliminating certified artificial colors from its ice cream products by the end of 2027, according to a company post on X social media site July 24.

“Blue Bell is proud to be a part of the @dairyidfa commitment to eliminate certified artificial colors from our ice cream products by the end of 2027,” the posting said -- referring to the International Dairy Foods Assn. (IDFA) July 14 announcement that 40 makers of ice cream in the U.S. agreed to eliminate the disputed colors by Dec. 31, 2027.

While the companies were not named, the association said they represent “more than 90% of the ice cream volume sold in the United States.” With Andy Jacobs, CEO of Turkey Hill Dairy and chair of the IDFA Ice Cream Segment Board, quoted in that July 14 announcement, it’s probably safe to assume Turkey Hill is one.

“We already offer many products that do not include certified artificial colors,” the Blue Bell social media post added, including a lengthy list.
