Martin’s Famous Pastry Shoppe Inc., manufacturers of Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread, will build a $123.2 million expansion to its Chambersburg, Pa., bakery facility, according to local news reports. The project is expected to add about 295,000 sq. ft. and create at least 127 jobs over five years. It includes a new roll production line, a cold dock and freezer, and an electric substation.
Martin’s, which has been headquartered in Chambersburg for nearly 70 years, received a funding proposal for nearly $670,000 in grants to train workers in association with the project. Martin’s opened operations in Chambersburg in 1955 in Lloyd and Lois Martin’s one-car garage, which they converted to a bakery, a governor’s announcement noted. Since the 1950s, the business has expanded from the Martin family’s one-car garage into two commercial baking plants, one in Chambersburg and one in Valdosta, Ga.
