Pickled Product Company Bay View Packing Doubles Throughput With Equipment Upgrades
Milwaukee, Wis.-based pickled products company Bay View Packing has significantly expanded its production capacity at its plant, installing a new rotary chuck capper and upgrading a label applicator.
The capital investments will allow the plant to double its throughput and better serve private-label and co-manufacturing partners without jeopardizing quality or safety. The improvements help remedy prior bottlenecks in the process, and give Bay View Packing the ability to cap as many as 90 jars per minute — up from a 40-jar maximum for the facility prior to the investments. It also allows for greater accuracy and speed in label application.
The company will continue to hand-pack products, said Drew Liebner, Bay View Packing president. But the advancements will help blend tradition with innovation and make the plant more efficient. The company noted that its investments were supported in part by the Meat and Poultry Supply Chain Resiliency Grant Program, announced in 2022 by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
Bay View Packing produces pickled products, specializing in pickled eggs, pickled sausages and pickled ham. It has been able to reduce downtime on its lines as an added benefit to the new technology, and said the investment also has led to job creation and improved retention at the plant.
