Valve for pet food processing from Coperion K-Tron; oil-free technology from Kaeser Compressors; vibratory feeders from Volkmann Inc.; online calculator from ABB; brushless DC gearmotors from Bodine Electric Co.; extrusion tooling from Guill Tool & Engineering; bulk bag unloader from Automated Flexible Conveyor.

Extrusion tooling

Extrusion is increasingly becoming one of the primary methods of producing a variety of traditional and innovative food products. The supplier’s extrusion tooling can produce a wide range of products, from pastas, hot dogs and snack foods to chewing gum, licorice and pet food. Custom-made extrusion tooling and dies make it easy to efficiently and consistently manufacture a variety of food products. For example, the 100 Series offers single or multi-strand extrusion tooling with or without multi-layer capabilities. The 200 Series ensures improved tolerance and accuracy at increased production speeds, with greater product consistency and reduced waste. The 2000 Series large diameter inline heads feature a low volume flow, heated core pin and can be expanded to output multi-layer products.

Valve for pet food processing

The optimized ZVB rotary valve has been engineered to provide the gentlest mode of material handling, while maintaining the strict sanitary standards of the pet food industry. This innovative design includes an increased inlet cross section and patented inlet “anti-chopping” inlet geometry. This unique combination results in much gentler handling, ideal for finished product kibble. In addition to gentler introduction of product to the metering vanes of the rotary valve, it includes improved overall capacity through the valve. Tests have proven a significant reduction in product degradation of fragile and sensitive materials. Ideal applications include positioning the rotary valve to meter and load finished product into big bags or supersacks or for filling of finished product packaging lines.

Oil-free performance

The CSG series represents the latest generation of oil-free technology, combining novel rotor design with a new non-wearing coating that meets ISO 22000 requirements for superior peace of mind in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, laboratories and other applications requiring oil-free air. Boasting up to 16% more flow and as much as a 19% improvement in specific performance over the previous models, this series allows customers to increase maintenance intervals and reduce their utility costs.

Vibratory feeders

Vibratory feeder dosing systems may be optionally configured to automatically weigh and dispense precise amounts of multiple ingredients fed from multiple locations into a single mixer, vessel, reactor, bulk container or other location. Dosing powders, pellets, tablets and other bulk materials in preset amounts, this system eliminates the potential for over- and under-weighing to ensure the mixture or end product consistently meets the recipe's specifications. Typically integrated with the company's pneumatic vacuum conveying systems, the vibratory feeders are suitable for loss-in-weight feeding, gain-in-weight feeding and continuous metering.

Calculate your energy savings

A new online calculator offers easy access to data insight based on the energy performance of motor-driven systems. By inputting basic details about their motor fleet, running hours and average operating power, the customer can estimate energy and emissions savings and payback period. The online calculator is a lite version of the in-depth energy efficiency audit used by experts in a full study and is based on the same algorithm. It allows industrial organizations to reduce their environmental impact and operating costs effectively and efficiently.

Brushless DC gearmotors

These type 42B-25H2 and 42B-30H3 geared motors combine a new brushless DC, 130 VDC motor with two hypoid gearheads. When used with a brushless DC speed control, these gear motors deliver maintenance-free performance with high starting torque and linear speed-torque characteristics. They are suitable for industrial automation equipment that demands quiet operation, high-torque density, and a wide speed range.

New bulk bag unloader

The new BBU II bulk bag unloading station features a proprietary design that promotes the smooth, consistent, complete discharge of non-free flowing materials such as whey protein powder, carbon black, bentonite clay, titanium dioxide and other bulk materials. This design uses dual, pneumatic steel paddles to gently coax the material through a new, extended neck connection inside an easy-access, oversized tie box, ensuring complete discharge while any potential dust particles are automatically captured by a built-in vacuum system to prevent release to the workplace.
