The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), the world’s largest network to maintain safe food – and master certifier of a handful of safety certification organizations – will hold its annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, March 24-26. It’s open to all.

More than 600 experts and business leaders from more than 40 countries are expected to attend the conference in Vancouver Convention Centre West, discussing ways to improve food safety. While food processors are the key component, GFSI’s interests extend up and down the supply chain.

GFSI is part of The Consumer Goods Forum, a global organization that brings together consumer goods retailers and manufacturers. “For 25 years the GFSI conference has acted as a platform for active collaboration, providing the insights needed for a global food safety system that mitigates risk and strengthens consumer trust,” the group’s announcement said.

Agenda topics include how retailers and manufacturers are meeting food safety challenges, how scientific developments and regulatory approaches contribute to global food safety progress, how artificial intelligence and machine learning are transforming the food supply chain, and how digital solutions and improved processes are helping businesses stay ahead of evolving risks.

GFSI does not provide food safety certification, but recognizes a number of certification programs across the globe that meet the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements. Those include (most are better known by their acronyms) Safe Quality Foods Initiative (SQF), British Retail Consortium (BRC), Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC), International Features Standard (IFS) and a handful of others.
