The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) has started its biennial meeting with a webinar and a call for public comments, all in preparation for its full meeting and votes on recommendations coming up next week.

The Online Comment Webinars are today and tomorrow noon-5 pm Eastern time. Details for attending are at https://www.ams.usda.gov/event/national-organic-standards-board-nosb-meeting-portland-or.

The NOSB in-person board meeting will be held in Portland, Ore., Oct. 22-24, from 8:30 am-6 pm Pacific time. It’s at the Hilton Portland Downtown. That meeting will include a live webcast for those who cannot attend in person. Details for both in-person attendance and the webcast are at the same URL above: https://www.ams.usda.gov/event/national-organic-standards-board-nosb-meeting-portland-or.

The organic board generally meets twice each year in a public forum to discuss and vote on recommendations to the USDA. These recommendations help the USDA develop and refine the organic standards.

All speakers making public comments already have signed up and been notified by email of the commenting order. Members of the public will be able to hear the live comments, board deliberations and see any slides presented, but only board members may ask questions.

All public comments and Board deliberations will be recorded. Presentations and a transcript of all five days will be posted to the NOP website afterwards. Check the Fall 2024 Meeting page link above for more details and updates.
