USDA Names Five New Members to the National Organic Standards Board
USDA on Jan. 2 appointed five new members to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), including two from processing companies.
The 15-member NOSB is a federal advisory board that assists in developing standards for substances used in organic production and to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on aspects of the National Organic Program.
New board members are:
- Kathryn Deschenes of Colorado. She is director of regulatory affairs at Danone.
- Amanda Felder of California, the Organic Integrity and Environmental Compliance Manager at Taylor Farms.
- Andrea Hatziyannis of Arizona. She is the category strategy manager for Sprouts Farmers Market.
- Cathleen McCluskey of Wisconsin is Policy and Advocacy Director for Organic Seed Alliance.
- Corie Pierce of Vermont is the owner and operator of Bread & Butter Farm.
The new members will serve five-year terms, from January 2025 through January 2030.
