Equipment Round Up: Sanitation Products

Jan. 11, 2010
January's Equipment Round Up features the latest in cleaning and sanitation products for the food processing industry.
Prevent cross-contaminationThe C4 Cross Contamination Control Center and Door San entryway sanitizer reduce microbial contamination both between raw and cooked areas and between the outside environment and clean processing areas. The system is simple to install and operate and does not require the messy dump-and-refill process associated with foot-dip stations. Providing adjustable foam and delay cycles, with two doorway foam nozzles included with each unit, it can be installed on any size doorway or entrance up to 12 ft. wide and can be combined in series with other C4 units for sanitizing multiple points of entry. The nozzles are easily adjustable to ensure proper floor coverage. A manual override button is included.Zep Inc.; Atlanta
The ice man cleaneth Dry ice blasting is a cleaning process that uses dry ice pellets to clean equipment. The dry ice is blasted at supersonic speeds using compressed air. Once the dry ice pellets hit the surface being cleaned they sublimate – return to gaseous state – so there is no secondary waste. Dry ice blasting can clean carbon build-up, grease and other contaminants in the production ovens without disassembly and while the ovens are still on. Dry ice blasting helps reduce the need to use water for cleaning, as well as caustic chemicals.Cold Jet; Loveland, Ohio
Into the ozone The Summit and Horizon Series integrated ozone systems integrate the four critical elements of ozone systems – feed gas preparation/oxygen concentration, ozone generation, mass transfer and process control – in complete skid-based, stainless steel systems. The Summit Series is optimized to meet the exacting requirements of sanitary applications in the bottled water, beverage, food processing, brewing, and personal care products industries. The Horizon Series is designed for applications in commercial laundry and aquaculture, wastewater treatment and other industrial applications.Pacific Ozone Technology; Benicia, Calif.
SDC-based antimicrobial Axen 50, a silver dihydrogen citrate-based sanitizer, can now be used on food contact surfaces. The sanitizer is an electrolytically generated source of stabilized ionic silver. Not only are bacteria unable to form a resistance to this antimicrobial, it also has a low toxicity. The SDC-based disinfectant is antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial, and it includes a 30-second kill and 24-hour residual protection against standard indicator bacteria and a 2-minute kill claim on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, CA-MRSA, PVL-MRSA and Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium. The disinfectant is also odorless, colorless, non-corrosive, non-flammable and is compatible with other disinfecting and cleaning chemicals.Pure Bioscience; El Cajon, Calif.
Antimicrobial doesn't require rinsingExcelyte, an antimicrobial agent, is a hard surface disinfectant, which has been proven effective against such pathogens as E. coli and Salmonella, has also been given the green light for use as a solution used to rinse fruits, vegetables and other food products prior to processing.Integrated Environmental Technologies; Little River, S.C.
Foam hand sanitizerThis hand sanitizer is a convenient, economical and effective solution to help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria in the food industry. The alcohol-free foam product is formulated to kill 99.9 percent of common germs on the hands that can cause infection and illness. The sanitizer is sold in black or white wall mount dispensers that do not require any tools for installation. Each bag of sanitizer produces approximately 1,300 pumps, costing less than a penny per pump. ERC Wiping Products Inc.; Lynn, Mass.
Steam cleaner destroys bacteria and moldThe new KleenJet Ultra 3000CVP steam cleaner boasts Advanced Thermal Ionic Sanitization technology, which has killed 99 percent of the disease-causing germs and mold in independent laboratory tests. The machine offers a water capacity of 9 liters and a 14-liter extraction chamber for extra-long periods of continuous cleaning. The equipment generates pressure levels that can reach 96 psi and vapor temperatures that can reach 329ºF. The bundled wet/dry vacuum produces 2200mm of column lift.Daimer Industries; Woburn, Mass.
UV for dairyHydro Optic Disinfection ultraviolet light water pasteurization and disinfection system is available for use for regulatory compliance in the U.S. dairy industry. The environmentally friendly system delivers protection against pathogens present in water. Energy-efficient and chemical-free, it ensures high quality, safe water at a lower cost than traditional thermal pasteurization, and now can be used to comply with the PMO requirements for pasteurized water.Atlantium; Israel
