Cannabis U., With a PoliSci Minor?
Students at Colorado State University at Pueblo will have a new major to choose from this fall: cannabis studies.
The Colorado Department of Higher Education approved the program on Feb. 7, according to CNN. It’s the first such program in the country, although a major in “medical plant chemistry” at Michigan State is supposed to be heavily oriented toward the medical use of cannabis.
The department’s press release stated that cannabis studies majors might be a fit for a “wide variety of businesses outside of the cannabis industry,” including agriculture, food science, biochemistry and environmental sciences.
The jokes about higher education just write themselves. But considering how the FDA has been jerking around food and beverage processors who want to use CBD, I’d add one more possible use for this major: Governmental relations. Specifically, managing the frustrations of dealing with a government that can’t make up its mind.
