I take pride in keeping a clean inbox by filing emails as soon as I get them. But I wasn’t sure where to put this one, because I don’t have a “chutzpah” folder:
Atlantic Natural Foods, LLC (ANF), manufacturer of the Loma Linda® brand of better-for-you, plant-based, shelf-stable foods including the iconic TUNO™ brand, today announced the company is considering legal options around the denial of its entrance to Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America—known throughout the industry as the “International Boston Seafood Show.”
Let your head wrap around that for a minute. A guy who makes a product that is meant to displace real, made-from-fish seafood is thinking of suing because they won’t let him into a seafood trade show.
I hasten to say that I have nothing against plant-based analogue proteins. I have tried Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat products, and enjoyed them both. But if either of them demanded a booth at a meat industry trade group’s pavilion, I can imagine what the response would be.
To all the processors and marketing of analogue proteins, I say, godspeed. If you want to take the place of animal-based proteins, best of luck to you. But don’t expect them to give you a neighborly welcome as you do it.
