Election Week Google Searches Reveal Consumers' Vices

Nov. 5, 2020
Google reported this week that searches for various local food products reached a higher level than most weeks.

Unless you have self control (or apathy) on a herculean level, you most likely considered indulging in a vice or two this week as a means to cope with the results of the elections.

No matter what side of the political aisle you're on, there has been lot of stress this week. If you're like a lot of people, you may have also found yourself particularly anxious. If you're like even more people, you probably found yourself wanting to cope with your anxiety using food or some other kind of substance (i.e., alcohol, cannabis, etc., we don't judge).

According to Google Trends, you're not alone. The technology giant reported this week that searches for various food products—local or otherwise—reached a higher level than most weeks. We've included Google Trends' reporting in this brief, but you can also check out the results for your area as well. Worth noting, Papa Johns pizza chain reported on Bloomberg this week that it's pizza sales skyrocketed Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
