Robert Unanue made remarks at the White House, next to Trump, on July 9 to mark Goya’s contribution of product to food banks as part of Trump’s Hispanic Prosperity Initiative. He said America is “blessed” to have Trump as president and called him “an incredible builder.”
That didn’t sit right with some Hispanic politicians, in light of Trump’s overall relationship with Latinos. He started his campaign by accusing Mexico of “sending rapists” and promising to build a wall on the Mexican border. Once elected, he heightened tensions by instituting what some considered abusive treatment of Latino refugees.
