Sorry, another fake news story. Wikipedia says:
Figgy Pudding is a vague term used for a class of traditional Christmas dishes usually forming sweet and savory cakes, containing a sour-sweet creamy layer of honey, fruits and nuts. In later times, rum or other distilled alcohol became often added to enrich the fruitiness of the flavor.
Interestingly, Hormel came out with Spam Figgy Pudding just in time for these holidays. The new seasonal variety is available while supplies last at Spam.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com. It features a blend of warm spices and popular seasonal ingredients and still lists pork as the first ingredient.
A Hormel-commissioned survey four 69% of consumers surveyed know what Figgy Pudding is or have heard of it, but only 17% have had it before. We’re not sure if this qualifies as a true sampling, enjoy it while it lasts.
The Spam brand also created an animation and song to reintroduce consumers to this holiday treat. “The brand has assembled all the classic holiday characters including Santa, reindeer, elves, a yeti and, of course, the holiday hog to sing, “We Wish You A Figgy Christmas.” Decked out on a stage inside of a snow globe, viewers will watch as these icons struggle to explain figgy pudding but, still, just can’t get past its delicious flavor. And again, happy holidays from the makers of Food Processing Enews.
