“For far too long, we Americans have allowed the so-called government to trample our God-given right to eat food that might kill us,” begins a satirical column by Rex Huppke, responding to last weekend’s firings of 89 employees on the food side of the FDA and Monday’s resignation of Deputy Commissioner Jim Jones.

Huppke is a USA Today columnist, with whom I’ve corresponded in the past when he was at my local newspaper, The Chicago Tribune.

“I and others in my 'Free to Consume Red Dye No. 3!' Facebook group have been celebrating every bit of the evisceration,” he continues. “Now that a brilliant non-doctor like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is in charge of America’s health and oversees the FDA, true lovers of liberty like myself will be free to eat whatever we want, happy in the knowledge it hasn’t been ‘inspected’ by any ‘health expert’ to make sure it’s ‘safe.’

Again, it’s satire, but it’s a fun read and he’s a wonderfully sarcastic writer. Read the whole column here.
