Kraft starts the year 150 million pounds lighter

Jan 28, 2010

Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods eliminated 150 million pounds (116 million kilograms) of material from its supply chain since 2005 to exceed its packaging reduction goal two years ahead of schedule.

According to the company, "The greatest opportunity to influence the environmental impact [is] based on a package's size is early in the design phase."  Heeding its own advice, Kraft Foods developed the Packaging Eco-Calculator tool which helps developers create efficient and optimized packaging.
