Hormel Foods Veteran Daniel G. Brown Receives 2010 NCFST Award

The National Center for Food Safety and Technology and Illinois Institute of Technology presented their 2010 NCFST Award to Daniel G. Brown, a 37-year veteran of Hormel Foods Corp.

TheNational Center for Food Safety and Technology (NCFST) and Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), presented their prestigious 2010 NCFST Award to Daniel G. Brown, a 37-year veteran of Hormel Foods Corp., at the consortium’s Mid-Year Meeting held in Burr Ridge, IL, April 6-7.

The annual NCFST Award recognizes the achievements of an individual in the field of food science and technology who has made outstanding contributions to food safety or nutrition across government, academia and industry. Nominations are evaluated by a selection panel consisting of representatives from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), IIT, and the food industry.

Brown joined Hormel Foods as a microbiologist in 1973, and was promoted to several management positions through the years, including thermal process technologist and manager of laboratory services and sensory laboratory. In 2006, he was promoted to group manager, laboratory services, serving as Hormel's expert microbiologist in response to all questions involving food safety, process validation and HACCP compliance, and as the primary interface with all of the company’s subsidiaries and copackers related to food safety, process validation and microbiological issues. He retired from Hormel in December 2009.
