Annual Practical Food Law Program to Take Place March 21-24

Keller and Heckman LLP has scheduled its Annual Practical Food Law Seminar for March 21-24, 2011 at the Le Meridien Hotel in San Francisco. The food law attorneys offer back-to-back two-day courses focusing on regulation, litigation and competitive issues facing food processors, retailers and restaurants:

  • The Essentials, March 21-22 -- This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the statutory and regulatory framework governing foods and dietary supplements in the U.S., in addition to covering important international issues. Attendees will learn about the latest regulations and agency guidance on bioterrorism, strategies for surviving inspections, recall and enforcement actions, and import restrictions. Anyone who wants to keep abreast of the hot topics—including food safety—that are affecting the food industry today should attend this course.
  • Labeling, Advertising, and Promotion, March 23-24 -- This course will take a more intense look at labeling requirements, promoting health and nutrient content, structure/function claims and other topics impacting how companies label and promote food products and dietary supplements. Attendees will receive up-to-date information on significant issues affecting labeling, advertising and promoting. Presentations will include: the impact of obesity—particularly childhood obesity—on regulatory and legislative policy impacting labeling and advertising, a discussion of the issues related to the expanding puffery defense, how to challenge and defend competitive claims and how to substantiate “establishment claims.”

This course has been approved for 22 CLE credits for the state of California. CLE credits are available in other states, pending state approval.
