The FDA on Sept. 19 released four supplemental proposals under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) affecting:
- Preventive controls for human foods
- Produce safety
- Preventive controls for animal foods
- Foreign supplier verification program.
These changes are based on the large volume of feedback the FDA received in an earlier comment period to the proposed rules. Now the food industry will have an additional 75 days to comment on this proposed final set of rules.
The agency said the proposals reflect "new ways to make the original proposals more flexible, practical and targeted."
The agency is planning to hold a public meeting on the revised proposals on Nov. 13 in College Park, Md.
