French's Cleaning up its Formulations

Dec. 14, 2015
Iconic mustard has always used simple ingredients; other products under way.

French’s Food Co. on Dec. 9 announced an initiative is already under way to clean up its formulations, removing artificial flavors, colorants, dyes and high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and sticking with "only real ingredients."

The company said its iconic yellow mustard "since 1904, has always been made from what today would be considered 'clean, simple ingredients.' " And rather than just starting on the label clean-up, "the company spent 2015 refining its product recipes and, today, more than 90 percent of the company’s products" are without consumer-suspect ingredients.

French's also said a “Promise Seal” will begin appearing in January on French’s and Cattlemen’s product labels promising “Great Taste, Real Ingredients, True Commitment to our Communities” – signaling the commitment to cleaner formulations, community service and waste reduction.

French’s Food Co. is based in Chester, N.J., and Slough, U.K.
