Consumer Brands Assn. Wants Clarity on Vaccine Mandate

The Biden administration will have to answer major concerns about its COVID vaccine mandate before it can be successfully implemented, the head of the Consumer Brands Association warns.

The association is reacting to a proposal, announced Sept. 9, that would require employers of 100 or more to ascertain the vaccination status of employees and require weekly COVID testing for all who decline the vaccine. This would be accomplished through an emergency measure by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

In an open letter to President Biden, Geoff Freeman, CEO of the Consumer Brands Association, listed some of the questions that he says have surfaced around the mandate. These include: what will be considered proper documentation; whether it applies only to vaccines that have received full, formal FDA approval (only the Pfizer vaccine qualifies at this point); who will have to pay for weekly COVID tests on workers who decline vaccination, etc.

“The Consumer Brands Association and our member companies stand ready to partner with you in getting Americans vaccinated,” the letter concludes. “Strong, consistent collaboration between the private and public sector on implementation will accelerate progress on our shared goal.”
