Hill's Pet Nutrition is investing more than $250 million to build a new factory in Tonganoxie, Kansas.

Hill's Pet Nutrition, a division of the Colgate-Palmolive Company, announced it is investing more than $250 million to build a new factory in Tonganoxie, Kansas.

The new plant will join the pet food brand's four other manufacturing sites in the United States, including facilities in Emporia and Topeka in Kansas. Topeka, which is home to Hill's headquarters, recently expanded to include a new Small Paws facility to develop products for small dog breeds.

According to the the company, it chose the Leavenworth County site because of its location, labor market, and proximity to distributors and suppliers. The factory, which is expected to employ at least 80 people by 2025, is expected to break ground later this year, with a completion date targeted at 2023.

"The new Tonganoxie facility will be built with the highest quality and food safety standards as well as the latest technology," said Jose Borrell, VP of Global Supply Chain, Hill's Pet Nutrition.
