Nestlé is jumping into the alternative-milks arena, coming out with a product made from yellow peas to be sold in Europe.
Wunda will be high in calcium, proteins and fiber, Nestlé says. It will be available in a few weeks in France, Holland and Portugal, with rollouts elsewhere in Europe afterward.
Nestlé says the product was created in just six months. “We created a new brand for this proposition so we need to have high expectations,” Cedric Boehm, head of Nestle’s dairy business in Europe and the Middle East, said in a conference call to reporters, as quoted by Reuters.
Nestlé already markets plant-based analogues for ground beef, tuna, candy and other products. It saw “strong double-digit sales growth” in its plant brands in 2020, CEO Mark Schneider said previously.
