Sweets and Snacks Expo Tries Indianapolis

May 14, 2021
National Confectioners Association's longtime Chicago show was canceled last year.

For the first time in its history, the Sweets & Snacks Expo (formerly the Candy Show) will convene in Indianapolis June 23-25 to celebrate two years of the categories' most innovative products.

Fearing that Chicago, the show's longtime home, was in a state of flux and buoyed by Indianapolis' success at safely hosting the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament, the National Confectioners Assn. (NCA) chose the Indiana Convention Center for the first show in two years. Last year's event, of course, was canceled due to the pandemic.

The City of Indianapolis has invested $7 million in convention center upgrades, including hospital-grade air filtration, touchless doors, Clorox 360 sanitation, hand sanitizer stations and safe concessions and dining areas, the association said. Additionally, the show will require masking, social distancing and daily temperature checks – although that was written before this week's easing of mask requirements by the Centers for Disease Control.

“This year, this event is even more important as confectionery and snack products have helped consumers improve their emotional well-being during a challenging time," said John Downs, president & CEO of NCA. "We know after a year of treating and snacking at home during the pandemic, they’re hungry for new product innovation from their favorite brands.”
