Temple Grandin Headlines Food Safety Conference
Livestock-handling expert Temple Grandin will be a featured speaker July 13 at a food safety conference and lab opening in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by Food Safety Net Services (FSNS) and its certification and audit service. Dr. Grandin,who has authored "Animals Make Us Human" and other titles, will also be available for a book signing and discussion of her published works.
The free conference is open to the public and will draw on experts from industry, academia and government to discuss food fraud, trends in GFSI auditing, the current state of animal welfare and other topics. Other speakers include Gary Smith, distinguished professor emeritus at Colorado State University, and Elsa Murano, professor and president emerita for the department of nutrition and food science at Texas A&M. Dr. Murano also is the director of the Norman E. Borlaug Institute.
Conference registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program is scheduled from 9 am-4:30 pm., followed by the book signing and the grand opening of FSNS's new laboratories. The program will be at the Amarillo Civic Center's Regency room. The lab and book signing will be at 331 N. Nelson St., Amarillo.
