Meatpackers in Minnesota are eligible for checks of $750 each from a state grant.
About 100 workers from Hormel, Seneca Foods and Quality Pork Processors gathered May 4 at a union headquarters in Austin, Minn., to celebrate the “Minnesota State Workplaces for Meat and Poultry Processing Workers Act.” Legislation signed by Gov. Tim Walz makes about 600,000 “frontline workers” eligible for the $750 bonuses.
"They worked throughout it all to make sure that Minnesotans could stay fed and so for the state to finally now acknowledge them is really amazing because they deserve it," Rena Wong, an organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers union, told KAAL-TV.
