Plant-based jerky will be the first product from the joint venture between PepsiCo and Beyond Meat, according to published reports.
The venture, called the PLANeT Partnership, was formed nearly a year ago, and PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta has said its first products would roll out early this year. Bloomberg reported that plant-based analogue jerky will be the first PLANeT Partnership product to roll out.
The Bloomberg report carried a picture of a product sample, branded Beyond Meat Jerky, with packaging that declares 10 grams of protein per serving, with no soy, gluten or GMOs. PepsiCo and Beyond Meat did not respond to other media queries about the product.
The joint venture is seen as a way for Beyond Meat to get into retail channels with the production and marketing expertise of PepsiCo, which, for its part, gets to enter the alternative-protein market with one of its most established players.
