Beyond Meat Upgrades its Formulation for a Beefier-Tasting Burger
Beyond Meat announced its reformulated plant-based Beyond Burger will be available in grocery stores May 3.
In its newest formulation, the 'beefier'-tasting burger will include more vitamins and minerals, but be absent mung beans. Consumers may notice a slightly lower calorie count (230 calories compared to previous iterations' 260 calories) as well as less fat (14 grams versus 18 grams) per patty.
"Extensive testing with our consumers validated this new flavor direction with likeability scoring on-par with 80/20 ground beef burgers,” said Dariush Ajami, Chief Innovation Officer at Beyond Meat.
The California-based plant-protein company has had a busy 2021. In addition to the reformulation product-launch, the company recently opened up a new plant in China, as well as securing partnerships with McDonald's and Yum brands, as well as with PepsiCo.
