Future Meat Technologies Changes Name to Believer Meats

Nov. 14, 2022
Cultured meat company hopes to build a U.S. plant and launch soon in the U.S.

Future Meat Technologies, one of the Israeli developers of cultured meat, today (Nov. 14) announced it changed its name to Believer Meats, partly in preparation for a (hoped) commercial launch in the U.S.

The company claims to have opened the world's first cultivated meat production line in Israel in 2021 and is now scouting several locations in the U.S. for a planned large-scale production facility … that is, when and if cultured meat is approved for consumption here. The company began producing beef but now cultures a number of animal meats, most recently lamb.

Only Singapore has approved cultured meat. But today’s press release said the plant “is expected to break ground in the United States before 2023.”

The name change indicates "our evolution from a biotechnology startup to a consumer-driven food technology company … and, importantly, signals that we're nearing commercial launch," said Nicole Johnson-Hoffman. She was named CEO in February after working at meat companies OSI Group and Cargill.
