Elmhurst Dairy 1925, maker of plant-based dairy alternatives, is trying its hand at plant-based meats with the rollout of TerraMeat Plant-Based Chick’n.
Actually, it’s not so much their hand as the hands of home cooks, as the product is marketed as a do-it-yourself kit “with only one ingredient”: hemp protein. Not soy, as the website and label clearly state. And while that one ingredient makes the “chicken,” a pouch of Spice Blend apparently is essential for flavor.
The directions state: “Just add water and oil; blend it; pop in the microwave; shape it; remove, pat dry and enjoy!” The result presumably is a chicken cutlet … with a hearty 26g of protein.
“First time trying TerraMeat?” the website asks. “Our Starter Kit makes it easy to craft the perfect chick’n cutlet right out of the box! For a limited time only, get 2x the Chick'n with 10 pouches of our Plant-Based Chick’n Powder & Original Spice Blend, plus our favorite silicone mixing cup and spatula. All you’ll need from your kitchen is an immersion blender and a bit of plant-based cooking oil.”
Who knew making plant-based meats was that easy?
