Andy Hanacek, senior editor for Food Processing, was invited to speak at a conference and open house by cultivated-meat company Meatable in the Netherlands earlier this month. The conference was attended by about 80 representatives of global meat companies, government agencies, food organizations, supplier companies and other interested parties. Meatable walked attendees through its process and made the case for feeding the growing global population through various sources, including cultivated meat.
During the tour of Meatable's lab, test kitchen and home offices in Leiden, Hanacek was able to taste-test the Meatable product, and he shares his real-time reactions and reviews of the products in the video below. These are Hanacek's legitimate "in the moment" reactions after first trying the product, not rehearsed and no "second take" done.
Andy Hanacek has covered meat, poultry, bakery and snack foods as a B2B editor for nearly 20 years, and has toured hundreds of processing plants and food companies, sharing stories of innovation and technological advancement throughout the food supply chain. In 2018, he won a Folio:Eddie Award for his unique "From the Editor's Desk" video blogs, and he has brought home additional awards from Folio and ASBPE over the years. In addition, Hanacek led the Meat Industry Hall of Fame for several years and was vice president of communications for We R Food Safety, a food safety software and consulting company.
