Performance Food Group New Plant in West Salem, Wisconsin, Begins Operation
Performance Food Group Co.’s new Grand Western Upper Midwest facility in West Salem, Wis., has officially opened, according to a release sent by the company. The plant, formerly known as the La Crosse Meat Plant, represents a $32 million investment for PFG, and helps the company advance the region’s foodservice capabilities, it said.
At 60,000 sq. ft., Grand Western Upper Midwest is three times larger than its previous location, and Tyler Zimmerman, general manager of the plant, called it “a game-changer for our operations and customers.”
PFG noted in the release that the added size enables the facility to triple its previous production, and it features a fully equipped kitchen and training center, accessible to employees and customers. Grand Western Upper Midwest will supply products under such PFG brands as Braveheart, Ranahan Ranch, Contigo, Allegiance and Piancone — across beef, pork, veal and lamb categories. The company noted that the facility’s advanced automation and expanded distribution capabilities will help drive capacity growth.
The company hosted a grand opening event at Grand Western Upper Midwest on Apr. 30, 2025, to celebrate the milestone.
