On the heels of the its Chobani Flip success, Food Processing Top 100© List member (and 2012 Processor of the Year) Chobani, LLC, Norwich, N.Y., is broadening its product mix and moving beyond the Greek yougurt aisle with a new range of products rolling out nationwide this summer. It hopes its Chobani Meze Dips and Drink Chobani yogurt beverages will drive yogurt consumption throughout the day.
Featuring real veggies, herbs and spices, blended with creamy Greek yogurt, the savory, non-GMO dips were inspired by Turkish-born entrepreneur, Hamdi Ulukaya, the company's founder and CEO, as well as the creations at the Chobani SoHo Café, its Mediterranean café in New York. The product is crafted like a Mediterranean "mezé," a Turkish term for a tasty, flavorful snack. Available since June in 10-oz. cups, the dips are low in fat yet creamy and flavorful as an accompaniment to vegetables, chips or pretzels. Flavors include Smoked Onion & Parmesan, Roasted Red Pepper, Three Pepper Salsa and Chili Lime, each with about 25 calories per 2-tablespoon serving.
Drink Chobani yogurt beverages in Mixed Berry, Strawberry Banana, Apple Cucumber Spinach and Mango flavors offer portable, on-the-go protein and simple non-GMO ingredients such as smooth, creamy yogurt, fruit, probiotics and no preservatives. Launching this month at grocery stores and retailers, they come in 10 oz. bottles.
"For us, when it comes to food, innovation means sticking to our roots, using simple recipes and only natural ingredients to build on our momentum and guide us into new areas that could use some better options," says Peter McGuinness, chief marketing and brand officer at Chobani. "Chobani's founding mission is to make better food for more people, and as a brand, we're expanding into two new categories like drinks and savory dips to give consumers what they're looking for: delicious, nutritious, natural food that's accessible to everyone."
