BrightFarms Officially Opens Macon, Georgia, Indoor Farming Facility
BrightFarms, an indoor farming produce company, and its parent company Cox Farms (a Cox Enterprises company) opened its newest state-of-the-art greenhouse in Macon, Ga., according to a news release. It hosted a grand opening event with tours and a discussion on the future of food and greenhouse technology, as well as interactive tours of the new Cox Farms Discovery Center on the site. The new greenhouse facility will serve as a regional hub for salad supply in the southeastern U.S.
The Macon facility began shipping produce to retail customers in late 2024, but it is now fully operational, featuring advanced greenhouse technology powering the high-tech, high-efficiency hydroponic farms, the company said. It has created more than 125 jobs in the region and was the third major greenhouse that BrightFarms has opened since summer 2024.
About 22,000 pounds of lettuce per day can be produced from the Macon facility on eight acres of growing space — with an additional 24 acres on the property that can be developed in the future as demand warrants. Cox Farms currently operates more than 700 acres of indoor farming space in the U.S. and Canada. Cox Enterprises acquired BrightFarms in 2021.
