Kellogg weaves a webThis summer, everyone’s favorite web-weaving super hero Spiderman isn’t limiting his appearance to the silver screen. Kellogg’s, Battle Creek, Mich., brings back its limited edition Kellogg’s Spider-Man toasted oat cereal and Kellogg’s Spider-Man Pop-Tarts toaster pastries.When introduced in 2002 with the first “Spider-Man” movie, Kellogg’s Spider-Man cereal and Pop-Tarts sold out during their first run in the U.S. The company expects their return to be just as popular.In the U.S., the promotion includes Kellogg’s Spider-Man toasted oat cereal, which contains Spidey-berry (wild berry) fruit-flavored toasted oats. Available while supplies last, the cereal is low-fat and provides 11 essential vitamins and minerals. Kellogg’s Spider-Man Pop-Tarts feature red pastry with Spidey-berry fruit filling topped with web-like frosting and provide seven essential vitamins and minerals.Suggested retail price is $2.49 for a 10.2-oz. box of cereal and $2.99 for Pop-Tarts.Creating momentumMinneapolis–based General Mills rolls out Momentum Bars, great tasting chocolate flavored snack bars that support a carb-management lifestyle.
“At General Mills, we know snack bar consumers aren’t willing to sacrifice taste or variety,” says marketing manager Chris Brandt. “With the launch of Momentum Bars, consumers interested in a reduced-carb lifestyle don’t have to make those sacrifices to stay on track.”Available in three flavors – Chocolate Peanut Butter, Double Chocolate and Chocolate Caramel Nut – Momentum Bars are sweetened with Splenda, contain only 3 grams of net carbs and provide a good source of calcium and 15 essential vitamins and minerals. Suggested retail price for four 1.4-oz. bars is $4.99.Campbell’s answers Carb RequestCampbell Soup Co., Camden, N.J., unveils a line of Campbell’s Carb Request Soups in 19-oz. cans that fit into any kind of weight control plan – for those counting calories, fat or carbs.
Carb Request Soups are available in five varieties: Roasted Chicken with Penne & Garden Vegetables (5 grams net carbs), Mediterranean-Style Meatball (3 grams net carbs), Chicken Broccoli Cheese (3 grams net carbs), Spicy Sausage with Chicken & Bell Pepper Trio (5 grams net carbs) and Savory Beef & Mushroom Medley (6 grams net carbs).Campbell’s also offers a Campbell’s Soup for Life Plan, designed by the nutrition experts at Campbell’s Center for Nutrition & Wellness. The plan is based on established guidelines for weight loss and a healthy diet — 1,200 calories-per-day that includes a bowl of soup every day to help you feel full, even while you lower your calorie intake. Researchers at Pennsylvania State University found those individuals who ate soup as their first course in a meal consumed an average of 100 fewer calories in that meal compared with those who didn’t eat soup. Edge products contain soy proteins and fiber that convert into lower-carb chips and result in a 60 percent reduction of carbohydrates compared to regular Doritos, Tostitos and Cheetos. General Mills Minneapolis, debuts Yoplait Ultra, a creamy, fruity option with 70 percent less carbs and sugar than regular low-fat yogurt.
The product is available in four 6-oz. individual cup varieties: Strawberry Crème, Peach Crème, Blueberry Crème and Raspberry Crème. Yoplait Ultra contains 90 calories, 8 grams of carbs and 5 grams of sugar per serving, compared to a 6-oz. serving of regular low-fat yogurt, which contains 31 grams of carbs, 28 grams of sugars and 170 calories. It’s also an excellent source of calcium, a good source of protein, and contains vitamin D, vitamin A and riboflavin.“We know many consumers, especially women, are looking for products that are easy to enjoy without compromising on taste,” says Kirsten Aune, marketing manager. “Yoplait Ultra is a great-tasting, ready-to-eat option that’s perfect at breakfast, lunch, or anytime.”Suggested retail price for a 6-oz. cup is 89 cents.Pizzas, breakfasts help get you out the doorSchwan’s Consumer Brands North America, a division of The Schwan Food Co., Minneapolis, premieres two new frozen pizza varieties – Red Baron Classic Pepperoni & Mushroom and Red Baron Classic 4-Meat Pizza (pepperoni, Italian sausage, hamburger and ham).
Red Baron hasn’t forgotten breakfast options either. It has also introduced Red Baron Deep Dish Mini Singles – Mini Scrambles, a flaky crust topped with scrambled eggs, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses and either bacon or ham.“Mini Scrambles are savory bites for adults and kids alike – whether it’s a quick hot meal for your kids before they head off to school or a relaxing brunch on the weekend with family and friends,” says Bryan Olson, national brand manager.Suggested retail price for the pizza is $4.89. Suggested price for Mini Scramblers is $2.99.
