Wanna see a machine spiral-slicing a ham at a Dietz & Watson plant? Click here.
In an attempt to be more transparent and understood by consumers, Dietz & Watson launched an interactive virtual tour of the company’s Philadelphia factory. It’s quite creative, showing the schematic of the plant with 18 areas within. "Click a room to see what's cooking," it invites.
Click on a number and, besides ham slicing, consumers can see pork cuts arriving, roast beef being cooked sous vide or hot dogs being made. Louis Eni, CEO of the venerable deli meat processor, guides each step of the tour, emphasizing (and showing in videos) viewers the quality, food safety and pride that goes into each product. And now, transparency.
“In light of recent concerns about food safety, transparency has never been more important to consumers,” said a spokesperson for the company. “While some brands keep their production processes behind closed doors, Dietz & Watson is taking a different approach – opening its doors to give the public an inside look at how premium meats and cheeses are made.”
