The Contract Packaging Assn. (CPA) announces its “strategic inclusion” of the Foundation for Supply Chain Solutions (F4SS), “creating the industry's most powerful resource for food/CPG contract manufacturers and brand owners.”

The integration combines CPA's 30-year legacy in contract packaging and manufacturing with F4SS's expertise in supply chain optimization for external manufacturing.

CPA represents contract packaging and manufacturing companies and acts as a matchmaker between them and brand owners or grocery stores looking for outsourced manufacturing. The inclusion of F4SS enables CPA to provide insights backward into the contract manufacturing supply chain.

“Combined, the two complementary organizations serve hundreds of member companies across the external manufacturing, contract packaging and brand owner spectrum,” the announcement said. “The unified platform positions CPA as the definitive authority on external manufacturing relationships in a market projected to reach $130 billion by 2028.”

The move comes as the food/CPG industry experiences disruption. Private labels/store brands are growing, now commanding 25% of total CPG sales, big-brand owners look for outsourced manufacturing and emerging brands are reshaping consumer expectations, while often relying on contract manufacturing as they grow.

The Contract Packaging Assn. sponsors a nifty tool, copackconnect.com, that matches brand owners' needs with co-manufacturers capable of producing that type of product.
