October 2007 Equipment Round-Up - Material Handling

Oct. 9, 2007
October's equipment round-up features material handling equipment, including pallet dispensers, a vacuum gripper system, floor and paddle scrapers, and a pantographic reach truck.

Dispense with pallets

The Model 601 Pallet Dispenser has a novel side-clamp design that grips and lifts the entire stack to allow the bottom pallet to feed independently from the stack to the palletizing station. This design allows the dispenser to run pallets with protruding nails or loose boards, while minimizing further pallet damage and eliminating handling concerns during warehousing and shipping. The compact unit has a solid steel frame with barrier guarding and a heavy-gauge, chain-driven pallet handling mechanism.

Increased handling reliability

The new VGS 3010 vacuum gripper system is a flexible solution for automated material handling applications in the packaging industry. This decentralized vacuum system allows for a reliable grip on porous surfaces, making it ideal for handling corrugated boxes and containers in a variety of applications such as carton erecting and palletizing Designed to increase material handling reliability at higher speeds, the product's flexible design eliminates the need for multiple end effectors when handling different shapes and sizes, which makes for quick and easy changeover and reduces downtime.

Tough scrapers

Available in nylon, stainless steel and polyethylene, a new line of floor and paddle scrapers includes flexible scrapers for work on curved surfaces as well as scrapers that are rigid enough to handle tough scraping challenges. These chemical- and corrosion-resistant products are made from FDA-approved materials and designed for use with the company's color-coded European-thread handles. The floor scrapers are available in five colors, and all products are part of the Vikan hygiene system.

Dump without dust

A new Manual Dump to Rigid Bin Weigh Batching System eliminates dust during manual dumping from bags, boxes, drums and other containers, de-lumps the material and feeds it gravimetrically from mezzanine level into rigid bins placed on a floor scale. The unit features a high-velocity vacuum fan that draws airborne dust from the operator's atmosphere into two cartridge filters. Automatic reverse-pulse filter cleaning allows continuous, efficient operation; timer-activated solenoid valves release short blasts of compressed plant air inside cartridge filters causing dust build-up on the outer filter surfaces to fall into the hopper.

New palletizer options

New design and interface options for the A-780 case palletizer increase its capacity and value as a choice for low- to mid-speed palletizing applications. Still in its original size, the product now offers substantially greater capacities than competitive products that are larger and more expensive. Its compact footprint allows it to fit where floor space is an issue, and its flexible layout configurations enable it to work within an operation's specific needs.

Pantographic reach

The new ETR-320 pantographic reach truck has been specially engineered for high productivity. Its three-stage mast and rock-steady pantograph mechanism enable precise load placements at heights up to 33 ft. Its high productivity stems from a powerful combination of high energy efficiency, ergonomic design, load, fork visibility and smooth lift hydraulics. Operation of the vehicle's AC motors, controllers and CAN BUS software is completely integrated so they work together smoothly.

Heavy duty lift trucks

Featuring a new turbocharged engine, a hydraulic fingertip control system and ergonomic styling, the P17500-P33000 series of trucks provide powerful performance for demanding applications. With six different capacities ranging from 17,500 to 33,000 lbs., these trucks are ready to tackle the toughest customer applications. For optimal performance, they rely on the turbocharged diesel engine equipped with a common rail fuel delivery system that assures even and high pressure fuel delivery to all six cylinders allowing for swift acceleration, low noise and reliable performance.

Tight and fast

Designed with a range of reliable performance options, the FBC15NS-FBC20NS series of electric counterbalanced Stand-up End Control trucks is built to last. With capacities ranging from 3000 to 4000 lbs., this series is a choice for fast-moving applications requiring extensive shuttling, frequent entries and exits of trailers and tight turns in narrow spaces. It also features electric power steering, low step height and knee, hip and elbow padding to help reduce operator fatigue over long shifts. Many advanced features on these trucks make it easy for operators to load or unload trailers and to pick or rack loads.

One man operation

Filling 15 to 20 densely filled bags per hour is a one-man operation with the new Automated Bulk Bag Filling System. This system increases productivity while maximizing the output of dense, stable, filled bags. Many companies have found they can fill 15-20 bags per hour with only one operator and a fork truck driver. Additionally, the weigh system and advanced PLC controls help to further reduce costs by providing consistent bag-to-bag filled weight accuracy that saves money by reducing overages.
