An overnight fire Dec. 26 at a Tyson Foods plant in Camilla, Ga., killed a woman outside the plant and sent two workers to the hospital with burns.
A wall fell on the cab of an 18-wheel truck parked outside the plant, according to the Associated Press, killing the wife of a truck driver who was asleep inside. The woman's husband wasn't in the truck at the time and was not injured.
The union representing the 1,600 workers at the plant told Associated Press that a boiler had exploded after 11 p.m. on Dec. 26. Tyson said it was working with local authorities to determine the cause of the accident. Officials said a fire burned for about three hours.
Bloomberg News reported on Dec. 31 that Tyson plans to reopen the plant in phases and aims to have the factory at least partially operational next week.
Tyson acquired the plant in 2018 as part of its $2 billion purchase of Keystone Foods. The plant produces chicken nuggets and chicken products for foodservice.
