Volpi Foods Unveils New Pre-Sliced Cured Meats Paper-Based Packaging
Volpi Foods, a fourth-generation, family-owned processor of charcuterie, has launched new packaging for its cured meats product line that reduces plastic use by 80 percent, according to a release from the company.
After consumers separate the paper material used in Volpi’s Eco-Pack packaging from the thin plastic liner, the paper-based portion can be included in curbside recycling bins. The Eco-Pack packaging also maintains similar shelf life of the product from previous Volpi packaging materials. Volpi products using the Eco-Pack packaging will appear in grocery stores nationwide this summer.
Volpi states that the new packaging takes sustainability and eco-friendly efforts to the next level for the company. The processor transitioned its pre-sliced line to the first version of Eco-Pack in 2021, and that iteration reduced plastic use by 70 percent. Since this launch, Volpi says it has diverted more than 128 tons of plastic — and now is reducing plastic by 80 percent.
