Bimbo Bakeries USA to Shut Down Bellevue, Nebraska, Bakery
Bimbo Bakeries USA will shutter its Bellevue, Neb., baking facility effective this July, according to local news reports. The announced closure follows the company’s Canadian business announcing a shutdown of its Lévis, Quebec, plant this past week and its Albuquerque, N.M., facility, announced in January of this year.
Bimbo Bakeries plans to shift production to other facilities, finding that continued operation of the Bellevue bakery was “inconducive to our company growth plans,” the report noted. The mayor of Bellevue told the news outlet that approximately 165 employees will be laid off because of the shutdown.
Marco Espinoza, senior director of regional operations, told the news outlet in a statement that “the facility did not have the infrastructure and manufacturing capability to compete in the marketplace.”
