Bimbo Canada’s Quebec City, Que., bakery will be shuttered by the end of the 2024 calendar year, according to a release posted to its web site. Approximately 141 employees working at the bakery will be affected by the closure. Production from the facility will transition to other bakeries in the company’s network during the next few months.
Bimbo Canada said the move came about as a result of efforts to optimize the operational footprint, driving effectiveness, efficiency and profitable growth of the entire network. Marie-Ève Royer, president, Bimbo Canada, called the move one that will “ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of our business.”
Bimbo Canada said it would provide severance packages, personal counseling and outplacement services for those workers affected.
This is the second bakery Bimbo Canada will close this year, having shut down its facility in Lévis, Quebec, over the summer.
