Cognac sales were up 31% in 2021. That's according to industry group BNIC. On Monday, the group reported that the distilled spirit had increased almost 31% in value ($4.1 billion) in 2021. Volumes were up 16%, which equates to 223.2 million bottles.
The brandy, which is produced in the Cognac region of France, saw the increase thanks to increased consumption from American and Chinese drinkers. In November 2021, Remy Cointreau raised its full-year profit forecast after a better-than-expected first half, citing a strong demand for its premium cognac in China, the United States and Europe.
"This growth reflects a real recovery of cognac, as well as new consumption habits," BNIC said in a statement.
