PepsiCo Promising Increased Sustainability Practices With Its pep+ Initiative
PepsiCo announced last week that it was transforming the way it approached sustainability. Dubbed pep+, (pep Positive), is said to "guide how PepsiCo will transform its business operations."
As part of its pep+ approach, PepsiCo is working toward achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2040 as well as being Net Water positive by 2030. The company also announced its intention to cut virgin plastic per serving by 50% across its entire portfolio by 2030. To achieve this goal, the company will use 50% recycled content in all of its plastic packaging as well as scaling its SodaStream business, which reduces the dependence on beverage packaging.
"By rapidly expanding the SodaStream ecosystem, we are meeting the needs of consumers at home, away from home, and on-the-go, said said Jim Andrew, Chief Sustainability Officer, PepsiCo. "At the same time, we are also offering consumers positive choices that use less plastic, create fewer emissions, and are better for people. pep+ is our roadmap to create the food and drinks people love in a way that helps build the sustainable future we all must have."
