Anheuser-Busch InBev has announced that Carlos Brito, its CEO of 15 years, will step down effective July 1. Brito will be replaced by Michel Doukeris, currently head of the company’s North American business.
Brito oversaw the merger of Brazilian company InBev with Anheuser-Busch and SABMiller to become the world’s biggest brewer. He and his regime were known for ruthless cost-cutting, done in part to pay for the company’s acquisitions.
Doukeris, a native of Brazil, joined Anheuser-Busch InBev in 1996 and has headed the North American division for three years. He helped develop Bud Light Seltzer and other products to capture consumers who are drifting away from beer.
Along with the CEO announcement, A-B unveiled its first-quarter numbers. Earnings rose 17.2% to $12.3 billion thanks to bars and restaurants opening in the U.S., even as lockdowns continue elsewhere in the world.
