Gatorade announced it has launched an advisory board to help drive change for women and girls in sports. Aptly-named the Gatorade Women's Advisory Board, one of the goals of the board is to address barriers that contribute to the decline of females participating in sports. In addition to examining root causes, the board will also advise on the PepsiCo-owned brand's initiatives to better serve female athletes.
According to the Women's Sports Foundation, high school girls have 1.1 million fewer opportunities to play a sport at school than male students. Research shows that by the age of 14, many girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys.
