Sambazon, a manufacturer of açaí-based juices, smoothies and other products, has elevated its co-manufacturing agreement with Generous Brands, formerly known as Bolthouse Farms, to where certain Sambazon products will be manufactured, distributed and sold by Generous Brands.
Sambazon, an acronym for Sustainable Management of the Brazilian Amazon, was the first company to introduce “certified Açaí” to the world, according to the announcement.
Generous Brands has co-manufactured several Samabazon products for the past 15 months, and this elevated relationship is expected to increase consumer access to Samabazon across North America. Starting July 1, Generous Brands will produce and sell Original Açaí, Dragon Fruit and Energy Açaí products out of its 500,000-sq.-ft. processing facility in Bakersfield, Calif. Other Sambazon frozen and shelf-stable product lines will be produced elsewhere.
Generous Brands will create a new internal platform called “Integrated Partnerships” to take advantage of its “manufacture-to-market refrigerated capability,” the company added. The platform is expected to create speed and high-quality scale for fast-growing brands to reach more consumers.
Sambazon is a Certified Organic and Fair Trade Açaí company and features what it calls a “proprietary vertically integrated supply chain.” The company has been supply açaí products for bowls and smoothies for 24 years.
Samabazon CEO and co-founder Ryan Black said of the deal, “We are delighted to join Bolthouse Farms and Evolution Fresh as part of the growing Generous Brands portfolio.”
