PepsiCo will shut down the manufacturing portion of its 80-plus-year-old Detroit, Mich., plant, resulting in layoffs — though portions of the facility and business will remain open, according to local news reports.

The company confirmed to news outlets that the manufacturing, transportation and maintenance operations would be shut down, while warehouse, fleet, delivery, sales and field service groups would continue operating. Updates to the original reporting showed that 84 employees would be impacted by the layoffs, but PepsiCo is offering pay benefits to impacted employees, it said.

The closure will go into effect on Sept. 27, 2025, according to the updated reports.

This is the latest plant closure for Pepsi, which had announced shutdowns of four production facilities at the end of October 2024 — those were in Chicago, Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Harrisburg, Pa.
