Organic Chocolate, Truffle, Snack Manufacturer Alter Eco Foods Acquired

Investment firm Trek One Capital has purchased the company, which sells its products in organic/natural retail grocery channels in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Alter Eco Foods, a manufacturer of organic dark chocolate bars, truffles, granola and quinoa sold primarily through the organic/natural retail channel in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, has been acquired by Trek One Capital, according to a release by the firm.

Alter Eco’s full cycle manufacturing process is 100% carbon neutral, the product packaging is recyclable (including compostable truffle wrappers), and raw materials are sourced from eco-friendly farms focused on regenerative farming, agroforestry, sustainable agriculture and fair-trade practices, the release said. All products are certified organic and the company is a certified B Corp.

Alter Eco was founded 20 years ago in support of South American cacao farmers, and it has see rapid growth in the organic/natural grocery channel. It expanded its portfolio to include a proprietary truffle thin bar product in a variety of flavors, the release said. Recently appointed CEO Keith Bearden is expected to continue to lead Alter Eco in partnership with Trek One.
