Nestlé has developed the first-ever cat food that is formulated to suppress the suffering of those allergic to cats.

LiveClear kibble, launched this month after a decade of development, helps allergy victims by suppressing Fel d1, a protein in cat saliva that triggers allergies. Cats pass this protein to their hair while self-grooming.

LiveClear uses a protein derived from eggs as its allergen-suppressing agent. It doesn’t eliminate all cat allergens, but a study commissioned by Nestlé showed that over a 12-week period, cats fed LiveClear showed 47% fewer allergens on their hair and dander.

LiveClear will be sold at a premium to regular cat food. It is available in the U.S., UK and France, with more countries to come.
