Plant-Based Processor Gathered Foods Sells Heath, Ohio, Production Facility

Plant-based protein processor Gathered Foods has sold its Trellis production facility in Heath, Ohio, to the Ahimsa Companies, a newly formed company for plant-based brands, according to a release.

Ahimsa is one of the largest stakeholders in Gathered Foods, and it plans to continue operation of the Trellis plant as a plant-based production hub. The announcement stated that Gathered remains a strategic operating and IP partner for the facility and Ahimsa’s broader portfolio of CPG holdings.

Gathered, which created the Good Catch plant-based seafood brand, will continue to operate its Cultivated Food Labs pilot plant and innovation center in Vancouver, B.C., and will develop products for B2B, private label and foodservice customers.

The Heath plant began operation in 2020, and Gathered expects to work with Ahimsa to support its growth moving forward.

Meanwhile, Ahimsa will continue on the acquisition hunt, searching for plant-based food brands, manufacturing facilities and sales enablement businesses, looking to support the next generation of plant-based foods through consolidation and vertical integration. Ahimsa plans to continue co-manufacturing for current and new customers, as well as manufacture proprietary products for its portfolio holdings.
